The app's founder, Edison Chen, described it as "a space for the older generations to feel more comfortable" in an interview with D Magazine last year and somewhere "the parents of TikTok users can express themselves." While the app heavily leans on Gen X and Y, the spokesperson said Clapper is adjusting its strategy "to appeal to younger audiences." It would remind me a bit of early Vine, but a lot of content I'm being served seems to be reposted old clips scraped from YouTube and other platforms. CNN —As the first over-the-counter birth control pill in the United States hits store shelves, the company behind the product, Perrigo, is taking steps to ensure women are aware of this new contraception option. It’s a different formulation than what is in combination hormonal birth control pills, which contain both progestin and estrogen. Combined birth control pills may carry risks for people with uncontrolled hypertension or blood clot risks for smokers older than 35. Most birth control pills are up to 99% effective at preventing pregnancy if taken as instructed. “I’m always a little skeptical of Big Pharma and their partnerships, but I think the general principle of having highly effective over-the-counter birth control be over the counter, that’s empowering” she said.

Why the Solar Eclipse Will Not Leave People Without Power
  + stars: | 2024-03-27 | by ( Ivan Penn | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
When the sky darkens during next month’s solar eclipse, electricity production in some parts of the country will drop so sharply that it could theoretically leave tens of millions of homes in the dark. Electric utilities say they expect to see significant decreases in solar power production during the eclipse but have already lined up alternate sources of electricity, including large battery installations and natural gas power plants. Homeowners who rely on rooftop solar panels should also experience no loss of electricity because home batteries or the electric grid will kick in automatically as needed. At 12:10 p.m. on April 8, the solar eclipse will begin over southwestern Texas, the regional electrical system perhaps most affected by the event, and last three hours. “I don’t think anything is as predictable as an eclipse,” said Pedro Pizarro, president and chief of executive of Edison International, a California power company, and the chairman of the Edison Electric Institute, a utility trade organization.

Einride plans to open many EV charging stations for freight trucking on the West and East coasts, though California is the only state in which there are any EV freight charging stations of scale today. Voltera, which develops, owns and operates EV infrastructure, said the site was permitted, built, electrified and operational in under 18 months. "In the world of charging infrastructure, that's pretty remarkable," its CEO Matt Horton said in a statement. One of the first EV charging stations of scale for freight trucks is opening near the major ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California, as the trucking market takes some limited, but significant steps to build the infrastructure required for a long-term transition to EV trucking and net-zero shipping. Additional EV charging projects at ports in New York and New Jersey, as well as the Pacific Northwest, are planned.

The chain's sales are "way stronger" in Texas, Arizona and Florida than in midwestern states such as Indiana and Wisconsin, according to Osanloo. For more mature companies such as McDonald's , it means accelerating new restaurant growth in areas where it's now underrepresented. It isn't just restaurants looking to the Sun Belt for sales growth. In addition to well-known chains, Greider has also seen restaurants with chef-driven name recognition traveling south from New York and Chicago. The chain's sales are growing again, according to Brix Holdings CEO Sherif Mityas, making it an opportune time to expand Friendly's footprint.

Exit polls are a valuable tool to help understand primary voters’ demographic profile and political views. The share of Republican primary voters and caucusgoers holding these views about Trump’s fitness for office and the 2020 election varies from state to state, even as the dominant sentiment remains largely the same. Exit poll data this year finds GOP primary voters divided in their desired approach to abortion policy in a post-Roe v. Wade era. Trump has also racked up support among those primary voters who are the most acutely unhappy with the way things are going in the US. Exit polls for the Iowa Republican caucuses and the New Hampshire, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and California Republican presidential primaries were conducted by Edison Research on behalf of the National Election Pool.

In South Carolina, about 41% of GOP primary voters described themselves as identifying with MAGA, with about one-third of New Hampshire GOP primary voters saying the same. Roughly 6 in 10 North Carolina GOP primary voters baselessly deny that President Joe Biden’s 2020 election win was legitimate, as do close to half of Virginia voters. About three-quarters of North Carolina GOP primary voters and roughly 6 in 10 Virginia GOP primary voters say they’d be satisfied to see Trump win the nomination. Most North Carolina and Virginia voters decided early on whom to back for president, according to the early exit polls. In North Carolina, about half of GOP primary voters made up their minds before 2024, with about one-fifth deciding in the final week.

Amid widespread discontent over President Joe Biden’s management of the border, the overall electorate is moving rightward on immigration too, polls show. For now, there’s no question that hardening GOP attitudes on immigration have been critical to Trump’s strong performance through the early primaries. Then, 56% of GOP primary voters said undocumented immigrants should be offered legal status; in last month’s primary, 55% said they should be deported. Immigration ranked as the most important issue for most GOP primary voters in South Carolina, and finished close behind the economy in both Iowa and New Hampshire. McLaughlin said Trump’s dominance among the GOP primary voters most concerned about immigration encapsulates a broader reason for his early success: widespread satisfaction among Republicans about his record in office.

The electorate for the South Carolina Republican primary looked much more like the one for January’s Iowa caucuses than for the New Hampshire primary, the early exit poll found. As in Iowa, well over 4 in 10 South Carolina primary voters describe themselves as affiliated with the MAGA movement. Exit polls are a valuable tool to help understand primary voters’ demographic profile and political views. The exit poll for South Carolina’s Republican presidential primary was conducted by Edison Research on behalf of the National Election Pool. Analysts are boosting earnings estimates on a collection of stocks set to report quarterly results next week, which could signal strong momentum ahead. Fourth-quarter earnings have so far been better-than-expected, with technology stocks including Meta Platforms and Amazon outperforming analyst estimates and helping lift the S & P 500 to a new all-time highs. Still, some companies set to report quarterly results next week are also seeing analysts increase their profit forecasts, adding potential momentum to those companies' stock performance. EPS estimates have increased by about 4% on average over the same time period. Akamai stock hit a new 52-week high on Thursday.

In New Hampshire, more than 4-in-5 Haley voters said Trump would not be fit to serve again if convicted and that Biden had legitimately won. In that poll, two-thirds of Haley voters in Iowa said they would not vote for Trump in a general election; that number soared past three-fourths of her voters in New Hampshire. One key reason: fully 93% of all GOP-leaning voters said they disapproved of Biden’s performance as president.
